Karate-Do Classes
Karate classes are an excellent way to get into shape, learn self-defense, and build coordination. Training with other students is one of the best ways to sharpen your skills as a karate student.
Great for the whole family. Few activities allow all family members to participate together as martial arts does. With our karate class, children and parents get to learn side by side.
Kumite Classes
Kumite, or sparring, is fighting with an opponent in a controlled setting. In this class students work to improve individual techniques, learn various drills and combinations, and compete with each other in sparring matches. While the class focuses on learning competitive sparring, the timing and distancing required applies to real-life fighting as well.
Kobudo Classes
Our Kobudo Classes focus on traditional Japanese/Okinawan weapons: Bo, Nunchaku, Eaku, Tonfa, Sai, Kama. Many of these weapons were improvised from farming tools because regular weapons (spears, swords, bows and arrows) were restricted to the ruling class. At KMA we teach a progression of weapons that allows students to grow in their understanding and eventual mastery of each weapon.
Students begin with a Bo, or staff, and learn the manipulation of the weapon with various blocks and strikes as well as the history behind the tool and how it was developed into a weapon. After testing for proficiency, students then progress to their next weapon, nunchaku, or wooden flail. Students continue to learn new weapons, as well as revisiting old ones, learning new material as they progress in rank.
Homeschool Class
Our Homeschool Karate Classes are at 1pm on Mondays and Thursdays. These classes are geared to students ages 6 through high school. It is a fun 45 minute class where students learn kata (karate forms), kick and punch pads, play karate games, and learn about Japanese culture. We offer a free trial class. The Homeschool Karate Class is $70 per month for one class per week or $110 per month for both days.
Specialty Classes
Our Specialty Classes focus on one aspect of Martial Arts training. This offers students the opportunity to train in-depth and develop their skills beyond what we are able to do in our regular classes. Our specialty classes include: Board Breaking Class, Bunkai, Stretching Class, Ju Jitsu Class, Conditioning Class, Street Fighting Class, Gun & Knife Self Defense and others.
Tournament Training Classes
Tournaments offer students the opportunity to grow in their training through competition. At karate tournaments, no athlete sits on the bench; everyone gets the opportunity to compete. Karate competition offers some great advantages to students wanting to sharpen their karate skills. The character, discipline, respect and self-control that we focus on in our regular classes are all important aspects of competition. Tournaments are a fun and exciting way to take those next steps in developing not only in karate, but as a person.
Private Instruction
Sensei Koenig is available for individual or group private lessons which can enhance your weekly class practice. If you would like to learn one on one or go more in depth with your knowledge and practice, please contact Sensei Koenig for availability.
After-School Karate Classes
Karate is an excellent tool to supplement the education your child receives by adding a fun, physical activity that promotes discipline, concentration and focusing skills.
Our after-school program is non-contact, but allows the students to learn basic blocking, punching and kicking techniques. Through the use of games and memorized routines (katas), students develop character, respect, discipline and self-control.
Our afterschool program is once a week at your child’s school. Each class is 45 minutes long and usually starts 15 minutes after school releases. The students are escorted from their classrooms or car line to the karate class by either their teacher or karate instructor. After class, parents may pick up their children or they may be escorted to aftercare.
Our after-school program information is typically distributed through the school or daycare that your child attends. Please contact your school or daycare for registration materials, or contact us about a specific location. If your school does not offer karate as an extra-curricular, contact us so that we can get one started!
Self-Defense Classes
Our Self Defense Classes are designed to prepare you for the unthinkable. From developing awareness about your surroundings to being physically prepared to fight back, our program develops confidence in all areas. Our program borrows from many different martial arts styles including Karate, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga and others. We teach self defense from all aspects – standup, on the ground, against weapons and against multiple attackers.
Women’s Self-Defense Classes
These classes are designed to prepare you for the unthinkable. During these sessions you will learn techniques and tactics that will give you the confidence, awareness, and skills to face the dangers in today’s world. This course is designed for women of all skill and fitness levels with a balance of discussion and physical exercise throughout.
