Traditional Okinawan Weapons
Traditional Okinawan Weapons
Our KMA Weapons Classes
Our Kobudo Classes focus on traditional Japanese/Okinawan weapons: Bo, Nunchaku, Eaku, Tonfa, Sai, Kama. Many of these weapons were improvised from farming tools because regular weapons (spears, swords, bows and arrows) were restricted to the ruling class. At KMA we teach a progression of weapons that allows students to grow in their understanding and eventual mastery of each weapon.
Our KMA Self Defense Classes
Our Self Defense Classes are designed to prepare you for the unthinkable. From developing awareness about your surroundings to being physically prepared to fight back, our program develops confidence in all areas. Our program borrows from many different martial arts styles including Karate, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga and others. We teach self defense from all aspects – standup, on the ground, against weapons and against multiple attackers. Our Self Defense Classes are designed to prepare you for the unthinkable. Our KMA Tournament Classes
Tournaments offer students the opportunity to grow in their training through competition. At karate tournaments, no athlete sits on the bench; everyone gets the opportunity to compete. Karate competition offers some great advantages to students wanting to sharpen their karate skills. The character, discipline, respect and self-control that we focus on in our regular classes are all important aspects of competition. Tournaments are a fun and exciting way to take those next steps in developing not only in karate, but as a person.
What they’re Saying
We are so thankful to have Sensei Koenig teaching our son! Sensei is patient with the students all the while setting high expectations of respect and hard work. My son looks foward and enjoys class each week. I am impressed at Sensei’s continued discipline of his own skills and his success in competitions.
Great Self Defense class Sensei. I learned so much. I especially liked kicking “Bob,” LOL. Looking forward to Women’s Self Defense class 2, next Wednesday night. Thank you so much for all your knowledge and instructions.
Formative for my son. The class strikes a good balance between being structured yet very fun. I’ve seen the focus, discipline, and willingness to try increase in my boy (and not just within karate, but in schoolwork and other activities). I highly recommend you do the free trial and see for yourself!
Highly recommend Koenig Martial Arts. Darin is an excellent instructor.
You will not find a finer person or instructor for Karate.
This is one of those authentic place to learn Martial arts. I am very glad I found Sensei Koenig. I came here from a different martial arts practice from east of the world. I could relate very well with what Sensei Koenig teaches. I highly recommend and one of the best gifts you can give to yourself and your kids.
My son practices Karate at this Dojo and I’ve got to say I’m truly impressed with Sensei Koenig level of dedication with all his students. He makes sure to give feedbacks to each and every one of them during class. He transmits confidence, and teaches Karate in a way so students can understand that Karate is both physical and mental activity. For youngsters he always find time to do something fun at the end of the class. If you want to learn traditional Shotokan Karate I would say to pay this Dojo a visit, you will not be disappointed. He also has additional programs like self-defense, Kobudo, etc.
